Intensive Water Shortages in Farming/Agriculture’s Action Plan

By

What is the Ecological Issue?

Intensive water shortages are caused easily by Farming/Agriculture, the farming/agriculture has a widespread of negative consequences on the marine ecosystem and water supply. Run off from barnyards and feed lots can carry manure into our water system, excessive use of fertilizer also contaminates our water like the bodies of water, rivers, streams, and lakes which all leads to causing pollution.(Greentumble.com) All biotic things are affected in this ecological issue.

The reason we are having this environmental issue is because our fresh waters are getting polluted and that is making water shortages al around the world, just from the agriculture/farming operations. Agriculture uses around the 70% of fresh water around the world.

The Goal in the End

The goal is to not have as much shortages of water around the world and be able to have lots of fresh access to safe water, that is not contaminated. Most indigenous have a difficult time trying to get safe drinking water because most don’t have water access right to there house. I want them to be able to not feel concerned about the water they consume.

The Team

Rimma Dankova, Lorenzo Rosa, and Maria Cristina Rulli are all supporting my action plan to decrease the water shortages from farming and agriculture around the world. Rima Dankova is a Senior Adviser with the FAO Investment Centre, and has a strong opinion about the water shortages due to farming/agriculture(blogs.worldbank.org). Lorenzo Rosa is a Ph.D. Candidate at UC Berkeley, he does some research on water and agriculture and the effects (Forbes.com) Maria Cristina Rulli is a Professor in Hydrology and Water Engineering and Co-coordinator of the transdisciplinary nucleus, she has lots of knowledge in water shortages due to farming/agriculture (Scholar.google.com). Together as a team we will have enough knowledge and education in our team to accomplish the goal.

The Planning

To accomplish the goal we will need to have our team gather all there knowledge and information they know about the ecological issue. I believe that if we built borders around all our bodies of water (allowing animals to still have easy access) it would stop the small streams of pesticides and manure contaminating or water. The cost of this operation would be incredibly expensive to actually do but I do have another plan if this one may be better in the end. If the farmers used a certain type of chemical that would still e safe with there crops and safe for the water that when the chemical gets to a body of water it is able to breakdown safely in the water and actually be a positive impact towards the water. This may be a longer process to start to figure out the correct chemical but I believe it will accomplish the goal better and I believe if this chemical costs quit a bit still we will get money back in the end because we wont be having to “play” with the water as much when it was contaminated. Once we get the chemical we will advertise and have farmers start wanting tis chemical, so then the goal will be accomplished.

The time line will be when the crops are already in and need fertilizing that is when the chemical takes action. But we would start to advertise and put the chemical on market a few months before so farmers don’t have to wait and there crops go rotten.

This is my Action Plan towards intensive water shortages due to farming/agriculture.
