Grade 9 Science Journal Q1

The issue of this reading is the deforestation going on in Haiti. It is caused do to poverty and lack of electricity they need to burn wood for food and warmth. They experience many disasters a year just recently the August 2021 earthquake that had a big impact on them (No author, 2021). One of main problem is that Haiti is extremely overpopulated so this tougher getting electricity to 55% of their population that means 6 million people. I will discuss what I think will help and who I think will be able to help. What I think will help this problem greatly is solar panels. If Haiti can get more solar panels they can be able to provide cheaper electricity to the citizen’s instead of having to use charcoal and fossil fuels. Haiti has taken off tariffs on solar panels so they are cheaper to bring into the country. This would make a big difference in my opinion. It would make a difference by bringing electricity to these peoples homes and to get rid of their dirty fossil fuels.

Who I think that can help can achieve this to help me is, Elon Musk and Roberta Bondar. I have chosen Elon Musk because of how he has an electric car company and working on space x to colonize Mars. He is working on to improve public Transit and solar energy. He is very tough and strong bullied and beaten as a child he has found a way to make a difference (Anna Crowley Redding, 2021 about a book called a mission to save the world). Elon Musk has a bachelor of science in physics and a bachelor in arts of economics (Investopedia, no year) Also he has some money to throw around to get this project started. Why I chose Roberta Bondar, she was the very first woman astronaut and very first neurologist in space you must have to be very strong and brave to be the first woman in space, she is also Canadian. Her schooling is zoology and agriculture from the University of Guelph and Pathology form University of western Ontario. Received a M.D form McMaster University a lot of school(Britannica, 2021). I think she can get something done if she really wants to.

If I’m being reasonable this would probably take quite a few years tons of solar panels to be installed takes a while. I think the planting of trees and plants could be done in under 6 months but not the solar panels. And hopefully in about 30 years or so the trees will be around and be a decent size of growth and the people wont be cutting them down because a large percentage of them don’t need charcoal anymore, they should not be running off of fossil fuels anymore too.
