Action Plan Coal Mining In South Africa

By

Coal mining is a way we make our energy, and it is not good for the environment or human health, so we need to get rid of it.

Coal mining in South Africa is the process of removing coal from the ground and it affects the eco-system in many ways. After they are done mining for coal the land cannot be used for anything, so it just sits their Coal mining can also affect humans. (Ella Cooper 2021) No one should be exposed to coal mining again.

I think coal mining operations in south Africa should be replaced with solar farms. Coal mining is bad for humans and the environment and solar farms are much more eco-friendly. Coal mining ruins the environment by causing Climate change, Acid rain, Toxicity, Air and Water pollution, Loss of wildlife (Kevin Hinton 2011). Those are just the effects on the environment the effects on human health include Respiratory diseases, Asthma, Heart defects, Lung cancer, Heart failure, and cardiac arrest. (Admin 2017) All these things are destroying our earth and humans’ health and we can stop them by replacing them with solar farms.

Coal mining in south Africa can be extremely dangerous many activists were killed because they were speaking out about the impacts coal mining has. Somone that would support my plan is Vanessa Nakate. She wants coal burning to be stopped as soon as possible and thinks it is disturbing. I chose her because she is extremely passionate about what she does, and she is not afraid to speak out (AP News 2021). I would get Vanessa Nakate to spread the word about the dangers of coal mining and raise money to help pay for the solar farms. Another group that would support my plan is the group of protesters that are forming a human chain. There are about 2,500 people and I would choose them because protesting is an effective way to get people to listen to what you have to say (The Associated Press 2021). I would get them to protest and spread the word about the dangers of coal mining.

Replacing coal mining operations in south Africa would not be cheap but dose the cost really matter if our environment and human health are in danger. There are about 34 coal plants in south Africa (Martina Schwikwski 2021). Solar farm costs between $ 820,000 and $1.36 million (Zeeshan Hyder). That means replacing every coal mining operation would be too expensive but if we slowly do it one by one, we could make it happen to save the earth.

Coal mining should be replaced by solar farms because they are ruining our earth and we need to do something before it is too late
