I selected Richard Spoor because he actively fights for the members of coal mining community’s in South Africa. he helped me to see that the community are left suffering when the large coperations stopped opperating there. this allowed for small mining comp to enter the mines and operate with out regulations and therefore take advantage of the locals that need work .
Tshilidzi Matharka

The community activist i chose is Tshilidzi Matharka

He is a representative for The National Union of Mineworkers in South Africa. He is fighting for the mineworkers that lost their jobs or faced smaller incomes when the large mining companies claimed the value of coal dropped.
He is a local member of the community that can relate to what the people are facing. He feels strongly towards helping the people because his family is also suffering from the result of lower global coal demand.
