Dear Editor, my name is Dexter I’m in grade 9 and I think we should be offering be offering this cheaper electricity to our citizen’s of Haiti. Haiti has experienced many disasters over the last couple of decades. They have experienced political and natural disasters that causes them to live in poverty with no electricity. Today Haiti is trying to make it able so more people have power to decrease poverty and increase access to power (Gandhi, 2021)Currently only about 45% of Haiti citizens’ have electricity (population of 11 million) and 80% of their energy is dirty fuels imported fossil fuels charcoal cutting down the trees. These burning of the dirty fuels leads to health problems and dirty air, cutting down more of the trees isn’t going to make the air cleaner. The government is willing to invest in new ways of clean energy and cost efficient ways (Gandhi, 2021).

Charcoal Is Not the Cause of Haiti's Deforestation | Haiti Liberte

Haiti has a lot of potential for solar power due to its very hot and tropical climate. In the rural areas of Haiti the citizen’s do not receive energy which they have to use dirtier ways fossil fuels or the burning of charcoal. The installation of solar panels could provide enough electricity to power schools, residential and businesses (Gandhi, 2021). This opportunity also provides many jobs for the citizens’. With natural disasters and political problems due to the lack of workers too Haiti experiences frequent blackouts because of their unreliable power quality. They have got rid of tarrifs on solar energy to make it cheaper for Haiti to bring in solar panels (Neil Yeoh, 2018)

The pros of solar energy for Haiti: Longevity solar panels come with a 25 year performance guarantee warranty they must be very reliable, Low matinence kind of ties in with the one above don’t need to do anything to them they can just run (Empower energy, 2021), they are renewable unlimited energy form the sun unless the sun blows up, Green do not cause pollution like the fossil fuels. The cons of solar energy: They don’t always operate when its not sunny they don’t produce power, very expensive to setup.

If i were Haiti too i would be going with solar panels.
