By AngusHaiti has used charcoal as a main way for cooking since the 1970s and is still using it to this day, burning charcoal regularly like this is polluting their air, Short term symptoms resulting from exposure to air pollution include itchy eyes, nose and throat, wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, chest pain, headaches, nausea, and upper respiratory infections (bronchitis and pneumonia). It also makes asthma and emphysema significantly worse. Long term effects include lung cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory illness, and developing allergies. also heart attacks and strokes may have something to do with air pollution. it can also have an effect on their forests, air pollution is known to increase plant life’s susceptibility to disease and reduce growth. but this is just the charcoal burnings side effects, Haiti’s forests is also facing deforestation due to charcoal farming. with an annual deforestation rate of 5.7% less then 1% of Haiti’s original forest still remains,
